There are specialized wildlife detection dogs- that might be an interesting training option if you're at all interested in that type of stuff- some of the things they do (and might even get paid to do) are- find dead bats and birds at wind turbine sites for wildlife mortality studies, find various animal scats (even whale!) for wildife research, find owl pellets, etc, and so on. If and when I add another dog to my life, this would be a great thing to train, as I work in this field, but it might be fun and useful to pick something related to scent detection and is relevant in your area (and interests) and train for it. I've heard that very very toy motivated dogs do best at this type of thing. Many are pound dogs that were considered too 'crazy' to make good family pets.
Thank you for the information Kierstan, it does sound interesting as I have worked in wildlife rehab in past years. Currently I only rehab those that find me, or those I find myself. It's amazing how many areas of scent detection there are!
Your pictures are beautiful, and the activities you share with your dogs is impressive!
