I'm going to a new vet soon and i know they are going to push the vaccinations on me and i want to know what to allow and what not to allow.
I know the law says i need the rabbies, so i will have to get that, probably not the worst idea anyways.
there have also been a bunch of raccoons showing up dead in my area due to something called Distemper, i'm not sure what the general consensus here is on that but i would like to know.
In the past i have also used revolution topical applicant.
I am not certain if distemper in raccoons is canine distemper, feline distemper (which is panleukopenia) or if it is a parvovirus strain, I just don't remember. The fish and wildlife guys (here the Department of Natural Resources) would know. "Distemper" is a sort of generalized term, like sore throat.
Canine distemper in it's most virulent form is a disease which will absolutely break your heart, and great food, vitamins and all the love in the world are not going to cure it. So if that bug is around, it's nothing to fool with. You can usually treat parvo, with luck and lots of fluids have a decent outcome. Not so distemper.

I think we've beaten this topic to death quite recently.
There is no right answer it's up to you the owner to decide what if anything you wish to vaccinate for within the confines of the law.
Learn the odds for your area as some areas bear certain diseases better than others and also what you'll do if your dog does get the disease you're not vaccinating for. I hate to put it this way but certain things are very expensive to treat, compared to the cost of giving a vaccine. Sometimes price is a factor in pet care.

Thanks Betty, the vets around here seem to say it is transferable from raccoon to canine, I don't want to risk anything that serious so i think i will go get the Vaccine while I'm in the vet.
Melissa, sorry to beat the topic to death some more i just wanted to get a second opinion before shooting my dogs up with a bunch of vaccines. Especially the Distemper as i had never heard of it before. They were pretty convincing that i need it, but they are also convincing when hawking their "science diet" if you don't know any better. the symptoms i read about is enough to make me want to give them the vaccine and the price to treat i'm sure is not cheap. Thanks for your input.
