I don't have much of a problem with this at home because we live on a somewhat busy street. The speed limit is 35 MPH but people use it for a speedway. I lost a dog to that street 15 years ago when she sneaked out the side door of our garage. Let's just say I'm really anal about keeping my dogs secure. In any case, rarely do people let their dogs run free or even off leash for a walk.
My problem is while camping! Every campground has a "six foot leash at all times" rule. Invariably some idiot will ignore the rule. My male, wire haired terrier, Buster, despises strange dogs. We've warned people of this when we see their dog off leash, and still their idiot dog gets into our camp site! I'm more worried that Buster will put a serious hurt on another dog, but I can't seem to make people understand.
Best think about this, is it is a walking stick and not illegal.
In many states pepper spray is even illegal.
But I like the horse whip that Debbie mentioned too.
I feel your pain.I have the same situation at my house. I live in the country and there is no leash law. And even if there was there is no one to enforce it.Our animal shelter is contracted out to a private citizen, and she is useless when it comes to animal control. I have 6 dogs running loose on my street and 1 new stray, a male GSD, don't know where he came from,I think someone dropped him.
My neighbor who lives across the street, his dog has attacked at least 4 of my grooming clients dogs, luckily none of them have been hurt.
I know of 7 clients dogs in the past 5 weeks, that have been attacked by dogs running loose. One of the dogs was killed.
It is a shame people will not take responsibility for their dogs.
It is very frustrating when you try to walk your dogs and constantly have to be on the lookout for fear of being attacked.I carry pepper spray and sometimes a stun baton, however I am walking 2 strong dogs and it is very difficult to control them and try to get your defensive weapon ready at the same time.
And for those of you that live in an area where you are denied the basic right to self-defense, I have to ask...why do ya'll continue to live there?
Move to a area/state that treats you like a citizen, not a *subject*!!
