My puppy had parvo at 3mths old he survived. We got him at 13weeks old and 6 days later he was vomiting and had diarrhea. During this time he did drink water. He did not eat for two days. The day of the vet I gave him some left overs of beef and he ate it fine. He tested out with Parvo he was only there for two days and came home because he ate fine and was drinking water fine. I switch his food from Chicken soup for dog(puppy) lovers to Eukanuba Puppy food Natural. I did not like Chicken Soup for Dog/Puppy Lovers because he wasnt doing well on that food. He is almost 5mths next week and he is doing fine but still has a little loose stool. His stool is sometimes solid but not all the time. What should I do. He has all his puppy shots and rabies. Any suggestion? He now weighs 45lbs from 30lbs. He is a beautiful German Shepherd Puppy and is very strong. Am I allowed to take him places now? I also have to keep our litter of 3 puppies off the ground because he had parvo in a certain area, which as a precaution I bleached ground, kennels, rugs, and crates. We never had a parvo problem until I brought him on in February. We currently have our 3 older dogs and a litter of 3 pups that was already bred in January. The newborn pups are now 3weeks old.
Not sure exactly what you are asking.... is it safe for *him* or for *other dogs* to take him places? If he has fully recovered, he should be fine to go places. Not sure how long the dogs shed the virus, though.
I am afraid re-contamination may be a problem, though. With you having new pups, I personally think you should move your kennel if at all possible. I've been around parvo a lot, and it is possible to eliminate, but it's darn near IMpossible! If your adult dog travels over the area where the parvo eggs are located, he could pick them back up on his feet, carry them to another area where they are wiped onto the ground, or he could ingest them by licking his paws, and pass them through his stool.
Hopefully others will chime in, but with parvo, I recommend you really study the life cycle and elimination, as it's very difficult to eliminate completely.
Was he vaccinated before getting parvovirus or after? (He shouldn't have been vaccinated afterward, IMO)
Sounds crazy but for the loose stool problem you may want to try to give him the REAL pumpkin pie filling with his dog food to make it tastier. I had a problem with neighbors feeding my dogs everything under the sun until I caught them one day and threatened them. I had to keep canned pumpkin around all the time throughout the whole ordeal because it kept giving them diarrhea. I also HEARD that the parvo virus lasts 7 years, a vet told me that if you bleach the ground, the dirt de-activates the bleach?

And every article I have looked up says bleach the yard so maybe the vet is full of it? You have done all of it. But if you are worried it may not hurt to do it again.
I hope this helps.
Thank you! So far his poop has become solid but I did buy some plain pumpkin pie in case he does experience diarrhea in the stool again. I read about bleaching the yard so I did do that on my own the vet said the virus can last up to a year in the yard but I did not want to take any chances at all. So no other dogs but my older male has been around the area where he has poop surprisingly my puppy male has always potty in my moms flower bed areas so living on 2 acres he has only been in one spot of the yard where his feces been. The three puppies are now 3weeks and 2days old they will not touch the yard at all even when they leave to their new homes regardless where my male has been or not. The vet said that usually parvo virus is active in the summer time and not winter time so that is probably why he didnt have a severe case. I am keeping him healthy as can be and he is still a happy playful puppy. My other dogs are given their shots our yard has always been disease free until he came here. Now I have to tell my family to be careful when they bring their small dogs up because they are traveling 5 hours to our home to stay for the weekend.
Thank you if any more ideas please let me know...
