Luna my two year old gs is totally panick struck during thunder
storms this fear didn't show up until a few months ago. She will
shake, try to hide, etc. Saturday night we had a wind and rain
storm. Luna came into the bedroom, gave me a nose shove to wake
me up. I put my arm around her shoulders, told her to lie down
next to the bed there she remained until thunder woke us up at
6am. I got up made coffee and gave Luna a dose of Rescue Remedy
that I purchased here at Leerburg. She laid down next to me at the kitchen table. She did not try to hide, clime on furniture or hide behind it. Cesar Milan has a saying that "Sometimes you don't get the dog you want. You get the dog you need" I am a Tornado survivor and extremely nervous during storms. I have to remain calm for Luna's sake and its paying off. I still get my gear together like radio, flashlight, keys, wallet, shoes on in case we have to make a mad dash for the storm shelter. Maybe one day Luna and I will remain calm during storms but until then Rescue Remedy gets an A from me.
I love Rescue Remedy too! I have even used it preemptively with good results. Before my daughter would ride her horse into the ring at a show I would give her some, and a couple of drops on a sugar cube for the horse too It seemed to really help them both with the stress of competing.
I take a bottle with me when traveling with my dog, and he travels like a dream.
I was just wondering if RR was good or not. Good to know.
I have used the plug in DAPs and had good success with them in the boarding kennel near the more anxious dogs. And I know folks with storm phobics that the DAP works for. I did find that the other brands don't work as well as Comfort Zone.
