I have a 18mo border collier/blue heeler mix and he is very fearful of the pool. Anytime I bring him close to the edge he starts shaking. He did fall in once last year. He will eventually come in if i have him on a leash and dont let him retreat away. I havent taken him to swim yet just on the steps but all he wants to do when on the steps is get out. I would really like him to like the pool since it will be getting hot here soon. He also likes the kiddie pool and loves the rain. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
And there are many, more using "pool" as the search term and expanding the date range to a couple of years (or more).
Be sure the dog is shown several times where the steps out are, once he's in. (Don't assume that he will connect it from sitting on them earlier; he needs to be guided from the water to the flat - not ladder - steps.)
