I've been feeding kibble for the past several months because I've gotten some great deals on good foods and life has been hectic and busy. But it's allergy season now and my oldest dog has allergies that really flair up this time of year. She does pretty good on grain-free kibble, but a bit better on raw.
Looking over a local flier I saw that a small town grocery store had some great deals on meat. Chicken and pork necks for .50/#, hamburger $1.18/#, chicken livers .39/#. Add in some canned fish and a bit more organ meat variety and I'll be able to feed my allergy dog for about $15/month!!!
Check your dollar store for canned makerel...$1/can at mine! Also check out any ethnic supermarkets if you pass by. Isn't it funny how we get so excited when we get a deal on raw food. LOL. My boyfriend thinks Im nuts.
I am about to start feeding raw and meantime stocking up the freezer. I found the mackerel for $1 and that was cool. Then yesterday my dh came home with 10#s of chicken leg quarters for $4.19 I was like.....whoa...that is half the price of the kibble they are eating! He said he 'thought' it was a good price. I said "you only got ONE bag?":0
