this thing...IS AWESOME....and my little hyena jawed monster hasn't managed to destroy it yet, not even a scratch. He did figure out the bottom unscrews but since my thumbs and I can barely get it open I don't think it's going to end up like this http://leerburg.com/1119.htm which did prove durable...but he saw me open it once to put treats in (I didn't latch his crate right and he snuck into the kitchen and saw me load it) and now simply unscrews it when I give it to him.
This weekend I had a convention in Boston and had my parents watch my pup, this was his "don't take him away from me" present from my mother who's decided he can do no wrong in her house. This is the first toy he hadn't destroyed within 5 minutes yet actually likes. I think I'll just fill it with kibble in the morning and feed him out of it. Anything he doesn't get out by the end of the day will be mixed into his wet food mix dinner.
Also, little bit of "OMG my dog is awesome".....my mother (who's not always that dog smart) decided it was a good idea to leave both Ryuk and my parent's dog ISIS out together, not crated, not contained in any way, with free rein to the house, yard, and everything tasty that could be seen as edible in between). My dog had NEVER been left alone uncrated (he's not even 2 yet...not happening) and while he knows the trash, socks, and paper are off limits if I'm watching him (and even then socks and envelopes are to irresistible even if I'm right there) I wouldn't trust him with a full lid-less trash can for more than 5 seconds without supervision. He's also never really had a yard and can climb like a monkey (though he has played in fenced areas and never tried to get out unless I was on the other side of the fence)
She came back 4 hours later after my father hit the roof and demanded she go home right away to assess the damage and found Ryuk peacefully curled up in his open crate with a toy chewing away happily. The only thing he did was take that morning's mail (which comes through a slot on the door), brought it to the kitchen, and carefully placed it in the water bowl. Apart from being a bit wet they weren't chewed or anything.
I'm not sure what kind of dog you have but I gave the same toy to my dog and it took her all of 7 minutes to remove the top and have it in 3 pieces and then proceed to tear the bottle part into about 6 pieces. But man she had a blast doing it!
I haven't found a toy yet that she can't destroy but I still keep looking. Someday......
I'm surprised yours broke since my guy has been playing around with it for hours now and it's really not even scratched up. However he hasn't resorted to going "through" the bottle yet (what killed the first kong toys we had). I think the fact he's been able to get a steady flow of kibble out has made him less likely to employ that method of food retrieval. My mother also got the largest size which my 55 lb dog physically can't get his mouth around. He tried to work at unscrewing it for about and hour now but his paws can't get a grip so he's settled for the wiggle and dump method. Mine is a little different than the leerburg one and has a rope rather than a rubber pole thing, makes it easier to swing around and take out his owner's knees....or the entirety of the cat...
the only other toy that's stayed intact (sorta) was this tuff fabric ring (I think it's actually 4 layered with other canvas like stuff in the inside too as well as rubber. He hasn't gotten through all the layers yet. However because it squeaks he hasn't had any desire to disembowel it yet...so it may not be durable as much as it's just to much fun to jump on it and make noise than to risk ripping it to pieces.
The only thing he did was take that morning's mail (which comes through a slot on the door), brought it to the kitchen, and carefully placed it in the water bowl. Apart from being a bit wet they weren't chewed or anything.
Wow....tooooo funny! Love it!....Mail...Water dish....HaHaHaHa!
I have a client with that toy and it has lasted her Golden actively playing with it for the stay at the kennel of over a week.....Like Jamie said, not even a scratch.
I was gonna add one to my next Leerburg order. I hadn't found them anywhere locally.
