not to rain on anyones parade so to speak, but i would definately call ahead, the shelter here gets food donated from purina i think, and that is ALL they will feed. people donate food, it just sits there unused. If they are takin in an animal that they know for sure has an actual medical need for a grain free food, or special diet, they will feed it, but its rare. things that we would recognize as an intolerance to a food, many shelter workers don't, they chalk it up to a number of other things(stress, etc) which in many cases is true, but you get the idea.
your shelter may take and feed that food, but you may try calling your local training club that does bording, or a breeder in your area who could use the extra food(either as food, or training treats)m or see if they know someone.
if you have a local mom and pop pet store who sells the food, ask if you bagged it up in little ziplock baggies, if they would want to use it as free samples, if the shelter won't use it.
You did a good thing... I'm glad it worked for you as it did for me. Seeing those sweet faces in the cages is kinda sad, isn't it? At least it is a no-kill shelter and we can hope the right person will be found for each dog.
Yes Barbara, there was one black and tan GSD, he was scared, walk behind his dog house on my coming and going. and a lady had brought back a lab, same reason as I ask the attendant behind the desk. Hard to place if they are scared. Dan
