I already have my own views on distance education but I always like to get an outside view on it too.
I am looking at http://www.dogschoolonline.com/ The program I am looking at there is the Pet Obedience Instructor: Theory and Application of Canine Behavior class.
So basically my questions are:
Has anyone taken this class or the other one on the site?
How did you find the online class environment?
Did you feel you learned a decent amount?
Do you feel that your a better trainer after it?

I'm doing most of my college coursework through DE from an accredited college. Some classes like anything are better than others.
Here are the rules I came up with:
The instructor needs to be available for questions at least 4 hrs a day (office hours)by phone, or email.
No Group work, it's a waste of time in the best of circumstances and a nightmare to work with student in different time zones.
The syllabus needs to be made available before the course begins for student viewing. This will make it clear what you're actually signing up for.
You need to know what programs and project materials are required before signing up. I have taken courses where the instructor just assumed I had a full copy of adobe photoshop and a video camera.
Sounds like an interesting course. If you decide to take it let us know how it goes.
