Belle is just over 4 months now. We are into sit/down stays and recall. She is learning so quickly and doing well.
What I am having trouble with, is, when I arrive home she is quite excited and jumps up. I can tell her to sit, but her paws continue flying about.
I know to mark the sit, but how to remedy the whirlwind paws??
Thanks,
Gina

She sits and still has forepaws reaching? Or are you asking how to get a non-jumping-up reception?
Connie- A little of both. I come in the door and she wants to jump.
Tell her to sit and she will, but even in the sit she will reach with her forepaws.
Keep a bag of treats or a favorite toy either right inside or right outside the door.
You come home, the pup begins to jump on you. I would turn away repeatedly, not talking to the pup. Just turn your back on her. When she does the "Hey, what's going on" sit or stand. (She might look confused at first) toss the treat/toy and mark with a "yes" and then CALM praise. If she starts up again with the jumping, you start up again with the ignoring. It will only take a few times for her to realize that the only way she gets a treat and praise is for her to sit/stand still.
that's pretty much the most effective way I've seen work. beats the heck out of "kneeing" and "paw pinches". I would only add to keep your hands under your armpits. This worked for me three out of four dogs. Erika, the fourth, bit me on the buttocks for ignoring her.
