So here are some new pictures of Ironhide at 12 weeks. The one of her laying down is after puppy class. I am apprenticing as a trainer, so we usually spend 5 hours on Saturday at class, and finally she is tired. (She works for one hour and observes the other classes)
The second picture is us playing 2 ball at lunch. I either leave her at a friends place or in a crate in my truck ( I live out of town) and we walk and play at lunch to get some of her energy out and so she can do her business.
She is so smart and can sit, down, get in place (heel), focus, come in, spin (left and right), weave and wrap around my legs and all in Hungarian ( I have 2 dogs trained in English, one in German and English and she will be Hungarian and English). She learns everything so quickly and bores really easily so my biggest challenge has been keeping her entertained/tired. I had a cast on my leg until last week so I have had to get creative!
Anyone with any great game ideas feel free to post!
So far we have done 101 things to do with a box and find the treat under the basket.
She has got marker training down pat so any games using markers would be great!
She was just switched to raw. All of our other dogs are raw fed, but because of the traveling to bring her home and then having to bring her into town everyday, I chose to start with kibble. I got her from the breeder on kibble, I don't remember the name, but a high quality grain free brand. She has now gone down to eating twice a day so I was able to switch her onto raw. I originally switched her onto Orijen and in the last 3 weeks I have seen a decline in her energy and one of her ears went back down. She was also having intermittent diarhea and everytime I thought I had stabilized her poop, she would get it again.
So, Monday morning she received her first raw chicken. I put the bowl in her crate, she looked at me, then the food, then started munching down and she hasn't turned back since. Within 8 hours her energy returned and was actually better. She has more endurance, more expression, and a beautiful gait. AND within 10 hours her floppy ear came back up. Her poops have stabilized over the last 2 days, she only goes twice a day now, instead of three times, and after her second meal they were no longer runny.
I read in a dogs in canada magazine, this article about nutrition. The writer added in a snide remark to the tone of, "I don't think dogs should eat raw meat, but that's a topic for another article". And PEOPLE read this and believe it, if they have never done their research.
I KNOW that if my dogs weren't raw fed that there is no way they would be as healthy as they are now. My dogs have not been to a vet, other than for a yearly check up (No vaccs) in 5 years!
My oldest dog is six, so I think that is something amazing!
That is just awesome that you have had the great turn around with feeding the raw diet!
It is truly sad that people don't do their research about the benefits of an all natural raw diet. It is even worse that they simply believe the commercials and advertising of most kibble brands as being such a great diet, when in fact, so many fall so short.
Just by doing some simple and thorough research, they could find out that a raw diet is just the best food we could possibly feed them, just as nature intended.
Also, I applaud you for being such a great advocate for your dogs and no vacs in 5 years!
Just the kind of owner I admire and appreciate! Your pack is so lucky to have you!
Best Wishes for Ironhide's future!
