This is my 1st post so I thought I would make it a good one by telling my story about using pumpkin for my pup.
Liberty is now 14 weeks old, GSD male, and about 25 pounds of dynamite!
After reading this site I chose to put him on the Solid Gold Brand of food called "Wolf Cub". This is the same company and brand that makes the "Barking at the Moon" adult food sold here at Leerburg.com...so that was why I chose that brand.
Well......it's good stuff...my pup loves it...but maybe a bit rich for him. He has had varying episodes of soft/pudding stools.
When he went for his 1st checkup (the wife and daughter brought him to the vet...I was not there) The vet recommended we add science diet to help firm him up. Well, reluctantly I tried this for a day....I read a bit more here and said NO!
We started giving about 2 tablespoons per meal at first and we have played with the amount we give trying to find the proper balance. In one meal he improved has been fine since. No issues with taste or eating...quite frankly I don't think I would have even mix it up the way this pup eats!
So my experience so far with FRESH pumpkin, that has been boiled and then frozen, has been GREAT. This is the very same pumpkin my wife uses to make pumpkin bread! Not the canned stuff!
So for those folks needing a little more confirmation on using pumpkin...DO IT! Later in the fall take your Halloween and Thanksgiving pumpkins, cut them up, bake or boil them...freeze the "meat" for use later!...beats trying to find pumpkin in May in the grocery store!
