Is there something about hard exercise that makes for runny poo? Dom comes running with me almost every day. Every once in a while if he's not "empty" when we go running, he'll stop to have runny poop. This has happened before when he's outside playing particularly hard. I try to make sure he's had a good poo before we exercise but sometimes he saves some for special occassions like this.
When I take my dogs running my husky has normal poo to start (we usually go in the morning so he's got to go), then intermittent looser poop as the run continues (this makes picking up after him a bit of a hassle). This is part of the reason I'd like to try a raw diet- just haven't taken the plunge. Also, if he's been running very hard, he always stops and has a runnier poop after he starts taking is easier. This type of thing is certainly exercise related- but I'd also say dog-specific, as my shepherd is doing the same amount of running, but always has solid stool. I've heard pumpkin might help, or a change in diet. I'll be curious what you find out...
I was having a similar problem. Decent logs in the morning, but pudding at the park after work during our "walk/fetch wear her out for the evening" regimen (before her dinner). She'd been mostly having pudding poo for a month since we had been on a trip and I had her back on kibble since she was kenneled and I was so busy at work. I think the trip started it all: nerves at the kennel, then I think I was over feeding the kibble (since she seemed so thin), what a cycle.
Well enough about that! I started her back on raw and the poops are good, even with exercise-just went cold turkey (or chix backs and hamburger, I should say).
