I finally had to add some canned pumpkin to Nickie's food this morning - he has had pudding-type diarrhea since last Friday. My question is how long will the left over pumpkin keep in the refrigerator (I transferred it from the can to a plastic container). Also, can it be frozen for later use?
(I used about 3 tablespoons in his food this morning - he is about 90 pounds and about 3 1/2 years old).
I would treat it like any other "leftovers" - it's probably good for close to a week in the fridge. I bet it freezes alright as well, since it's consistency is already about as broken down and mushy as it could get. All that said, whenever I crack open a can for Oscar, I generally just feed it every day until it's gone. Can't do any harm, and it's not like it's a huge investment.
It's probably too early to tell if Nickie is "back to normal" yet...? Hope the pumpkin works it's magic for him!
I also have to remember to tell our neighbor when he comes over not to "share" his beer with Nickie - I have a feeling that is what has caused the diarrhea because nothing else has changed in his diet or routine.
