I have a client who has just started a week boot camp with me this morning.
Her dog is a 13 month schnauzer / king charles spaniel mix - castrated male.
He has the worst farting problem I have ever encountered in a dog (thank god my venue is outdoor). His poo is generally solid but he goes 2/3 times a day. This has always been the case and is nothing new.
She has tried changing food with little / no difference. He will pick up and eat anything - poop, scraps, ripe fruit. In fruit seasons he will poop 6-8 times a day. From what she has said it seems he digests food rapidly - 4 hours or so until foreign objects come out - he also eats inedible things.
This just seems very odd to me. Does it sound like he has a digestive problem or is it just a result of him eating everything?
She is willing to try feeding raw and obviously we'll tackle the training side of it.
Any suggestions / comments? Thanks
His current food = Maize, Fresh Chicken (min. 20%), Barley, Rice, Poultry Meat Meal, Sugar Beet Pulp, Poultry Digest, Brewers Yeast, Egg Powder, Flaxseed, Potato Protein, Animal Fat, Cellulose, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Methionine, Marigold Extract, Yucca Extract, L-Carnitine, Rosemary Extract. with Antioxidant EC Additives (Vitamin E and C). Total Chicken min. 31%.

My guess is that the quantity of poop and the gas are both related to the amount of cereal (and therefore fiber) in this kibble. Maize, barley, rice, sugar beet pulp. And he doesn't seem to be processing it well. I'd bet the compulsion to eat poop and other non-food things is related too. He's trying to compensate for something he's not getting in his diet.
