Fear is fear. You can blame it on all kinds of things but it's in the dog and it WILL come out, all the rest is BS.
Thank you Mr. Curbow. I get what you are saying and I’m happy to hear that what this dog has gone through is not common practice.
I must also agree with Randy in that many incredible dogs have some kind of “edge”, it’s what makes them unique. Their genetic make-up and past experiences is what come together to form their personality. Creating that solid compatible predictability, in a work, sport or a companion venue, is why we try to become the best trainers we can.
Some dogs are easier, not born or coming with a lot of incompatible baggage, however, I for one, am more than willing to unpack those bags and see what treasures we can find. And as with people, thank goodness they are not all cookie cut from the same cloth.
