Honestly I tend to go by how the dog acts as much or more than looks. I have had dogs from litters that I KNEW the lines and still get some oddball pups. I know some could have been accidental side breedings but some you just gotta wonder.
Heck, our 12# brussels griffon had a litter by a 15# brindle and white bostonXpug (Husband OOOPS) and the pups were half and half long and short coated and mostly all looked like the mom. BUT the girls were all under 10# mature weight and the boys were all pushing 20#
Customer at the kennel brought in his NewfXLab....KNOWN parents. The dog was 50# soaking wet and spaniely looking. They were disappointed as their other dog was a Saint and they wanted a big dog. Instead they got a handful of energy. Nice dog, very little self control.
