Hi all! I have a question for THK feeders. I don't know if my issue is dietary or general health related yet but I figured this was a good place to post.
Duke is my one year old boxer pup. I have been feeding THK Embark since he first came home. I feed him twice a day. Two cups (prior to hydration) around 0700 and the same around 1700. I don't measure the water so sometimes it is a little more soupy than it should be but I don't feel like this should be a problem. Duke was about 60 lbs last time he was weighed but that was a few months ago. His parents were 80 lbs and 85 lbs. Duke is crate trained. We occasionally have accidents (our fault) where he pees in the crate. He hasn't pooped in the crate since he was very young, except for once when he got sick and had bad diahrea (Sorry I can't spell). I have noticed that Duke consistently has loose stool when eating THK. By consistently I do not mean every bowel movement but at least once a day. I noticed the difference because at one point we switched to Royal Canine for about a month or so and then switched back.
We opened a new box of THK early last week and did not have any problems until yesterday. Yesterday afternoon Duke pooped in his crate. It was firm logs not diahrea. Duke's schedule is relatively consistent and there were no variations in his walks or trips outside to go potty. My wife called me to tell me that Duke pooped in his cage again this morning at about 0630. She took him out at that time and he pooped a small amount. I normally get home around 0700, fix his morning meal, take him for a walk and then give him the food when we get back. He typically poops once at that time. When I got home I did not feed him (I wanted to let his stomach settle a little if it was a food problem). He then pooped a third time while my wife was gone this aftermorning. All three times the poop was solid. This is very out of the ordinary. I am going to take him to the vet and have them do a fecal test. In the mean time does it sound like I am doing something wrong? Feeding too much? Is this possibly a behavioral problem that is developing? Any thoughts on a medical explination?
