A real (uncut) oozing testosterone dog at the right time in the cycle she'd be different, even if she is a super dominant bossy run the show gal. The hormones are just too strong. It would help if he had some moves, ie a dog confident in his ability to get the job done but not a bully."How about I lick you here?" Wolfy, quiet, dominant, strong, still and handsome. A dog with no foolishness. On his turf, not hers. I think you'd be surprised how sweet she could be.
She'd have to be sweet to raise her pups too, it could bring out a maternal side.
My husband's dog would NOT stand for the male till very late in her heat. Should he approach when she wasn't ready, she would put a real hurtin' on him. She always only ended up with a short window of being receptive. Maybe a day or 2 and that was it.

I always try and kennel the dogs next to each other for a couple of days first. I think that helps and you can start to get a feel for the girls reaction.
In the circumstances you describe I would look for an experienced male, one that is known to jump in and get the deed done so to speak. Muzzle her and if necessary hold her.
Collection and AI at a vet office isn't to bad here price wise. I'm not sure what your area charges. You also have the added benefit of the sperm being looked at to make sure it's viable.
