This is my first serious attempt to teach the look command. Before this I have not trained it specifically except that I insist that Kaiser has to sit and look into my eyes before he can have his lunch/dinner.
I have the entire treat tray in front of him , so he is able to deal with the distraction, but the moment I correct him for the food distraction if he feels the distraction is too much , he voluntarily withdraws himself from the situation as you can see in this video. He just moves away from the distraction. He is OK with me correcting him for the wrong behaviour. You can see that too in the video. I have not corrected him in any harsh way other than a few "BAADDD PUPPY"s while I catch him peeing in my front yard or popped his leash when he looks aggressively at street dogs.
Am I doing some thing wrong that is making him just move away? You can see that he leaves his place several times in this video.
Please take the time to watch the video fully so that you can see him avoid the distractions by moving away.
Should this have been posted in the General dog related section? If so, can the moderators kindly move it over there as it is more of a training question than a you tube video post
What a cute pup. My only thought is that since you are just beginning to train the "look" command, it might be helpful to keep the training sessions shorter and with no distractions (treats on the floor). He might be relating it to getting reprimanded (rightly so) in the past for sneaking food off the table or from one of the other dogs. Start a new command with no distractions, then gradually build up.
He's doing a great job with that Look command! He brings back memories of my Dobe! My pup is pretty good about looking at me, but I would surely need to eliminate that treat tray, it would be waaaaay too much of a distraction , he is such a food warrior, it makes me want to video tape him for you to see, you would certainly get a laugh!
Kaiser did a great job dealing with the distraction!
