We're having our kitchen reno'd starting next week. Kitchen has been home base for our 7 month Beagle-mix pup since he was 8 weeks.
Is it best to have pup crated for the bulk of the demo (likely a day or two) and then confined to family-room in our basement (i.e., away from all the disruption) during the rest of the work?
We'll have access to our fenced-in backyard & I'll be home during the work so he can hang in the family room with me.
I would say that if he can be with you, away from all the remodel that would be best. If he can also spend some time in his crate too, like a good nap or whatever he is used to normally, with the exception of being in the kitchen.
If you can keep him just in the family room with you, and keep his crate down there open so he can go in when he wants, he should be most comfortable there, it sounds perfect for the time being.
I think most important is that if you are there, that should help make him feel ok about all the noise and commotion.
We have been remodeling our kitchen and it is so much fun!
Best wishes for your new kitchen!
It's so comforting to hear when someone echo's one's intuition. Luckily, I work from home so pup & I will chill in the basement family room together - pity the poor workmen; tomorrow is forecast to be 26C (around 80F).
Just by pure dumb luck, without any fore-thougth as to this being helpful, we moved Falcon's crate around numerous times when he first came to us. (Various reasons - giving the cats more space to their own, away from a heating vent which was making him too warm, into our office to keep him cooler, etc...) He now feels that where ever his crate is - is home. It really has become so helpful and makes life easier when "life" happens and we have to move him around or take him somewhere new.
