Hello all. I'm here hoping for some help. I recently came under ownership of a 12 week old Dutch Shepherd girl. Beautiful, beautiful dog. I love her to pieces. What I'm here to ask about, however, is when their ears are expected to stand? One stands up perfectly and has never, since I've had her, flopped over. The other stood for a few days, fell over, and has been that way ever since. She's now 14 weeks old and I'm getting a bit nervous. Considering she's not a breed any vet around here will have seen, I wonder if they would know. I figured I would ask on Leerburg to begin with, considering I know there are some Dutchie handlers on here. :P
The other stood for a few days, fell over, and has been that way ever since.
Congratulations on your girl!
I wouldn't worry...It stood for a brief time, it will go back up. My GSD's always had one ear flop during teething. One had a flop for a long time, I was told it would stay that way, but it did eventually stand.
Don't know about dutchies, but my newest (the black GSD) came in with both ears up at 8 weeks. Then one was down, then the other. Like they took turns or something.
Then one went down and stayed for seemingly FOREVER.
Just look at them now.
Don't worry. One day you'll wake up and the world will be right again.

Until her teeth are falling out I wouldn't worry about the ears too much. If they have stood once they'll stand again. BTW... the fees for answers about puppies... especially dutchie puppies is a picture.
I miss the alternating floppy ears! Tasha had one for a while that would go down while she was sleeping and pop back up as she became more alert. I always knew what she had been up to when I came home from work.
My personal favorite was the stage when they pointed toward the center of her head like antennae!

Wow. Sorry it's been so long getting back to you guys. Internet issues and the 4th.
Well, her ears are now standing tall! Thank god. I'll have pictures of her soon. She's getting on in size as well now. Very cuddly - and maybe she's weird for that as I did not expect these guys to be that way. Not complaining. :P
Thanks for the responses. And, Lauren, it's funny you said about the 'antenna ears' because when I got her the very tip of her right curled backwards to make an almost complete roll. It was too funny. I loved it.
