My GSD is 5 1/2 months and very well trained in obedience. After what I've read on this site I think I have done everything correctly so far. I have been working on his drive with tug toys and he loves it. He also loves to fetch! My goal is to train him to be protective when he matures. He is starting to bark at knocks and weird noises. His tail stands straight and his hair on him back stands up. Should I correct him ubruprtly when he does this or encourage him by saying "watch um"?
Hi Todd, it would be well worth your time to watch Michael Ellis lecture on different forms of dog aggression. From your description it sounds like your pup is not showing confidence but fear. He is not trying to be protective but puts on a show to make the threat go away.
