I was just out walking Louie (scared/jumpy rescue I've had for a week) and I ran into 2 situations where other dogs acted aggressively (barking, lunging on their leash) and scared the heck out of him (he jumped back like 3 ft the first time and the poor boy backed into a pole ). I got in between the dogs to shield him and got us the heck out of there as fast as I could. The other dog's owners try to control the dog (fail) and apologize but the damage is done. I try to avoid other dogs if I can see them from a distance, but in these cases it came from around a corner. What do you do if/when this happens?
background info: Wife and I live in a large apartment building with lots of dogs so this is bound to happen at some point. There are well behaved dogs and there are the others (usually smaller dogs).
