I noticed we can order ELK ant. chew here at leerburg. I notice they come in various weights, but need to know about how long they are. I would like to get the 6 oz. ones. Has anyone with smaller dogs(18-22lbs) used them and how did it work out.
THanks sharon
Get a small one. Maggie is big and it takes her forever to work on one that is the size Leerburg sells. I even find bigger ones that take her months...vary good value, they last for a long time, unlike Bullies that are 30 minutes tops.
Marcia:Has it helped your dogs teeth much?
My cody was very ill and received lots of meds and we noticed after his stay at the hospital, his teeth has plaque on them. We are hoping this will help his teeth and the other dogs teeth.
I was concerned my pups could get them all the way in their mouths and they'd get stuck.
I also love the idea of the minerals in them.
Thanks so much for your info I appreciate it.
Maggie is a pup, but she really works at the antler. I think it would help clean teeth. I think the pieces are usually about 6" to 8" long, it shouldn't get stuck.
Question about chews...For in the house I usually give the monsters a bully stick here and there. Today I got them deer antlers and I think they went through them faster than the bully. Not sure if it is because it was a new thing or if the chew texture is the same. I'm not really looking for cleaning the teeth, just to relieve some boredom on the hot or rainy days.
Marcia how long do you usually let Miss Maggie work on her elk?
Then I remembered LB sold elk antlers and wondered what everyone thought of the different chew options for in house?
I love the elk antlers. Just ordered and received them. They are not messy in the house and my dogs love them. They do not chew them continually, nor do I let them.
I understand they last a very long time. I believe it, as my dogs have chewed and chewed and haven't made much of a dent.
I have my dogs eat bones in their crates (when I am home) so that we do not have any scuffels and since the bones I give them have lots of meat on them, less mess.
Thats all I have given my dogs so far.
Good question and looking forward to seeing what others have given their dogs in the house.
I love the elk antlers. Just ordered and received them.
What size are the elk antlers? I make pens (ball point, roller ball and fountain) out of antler. The problem is finding a piece at least 4 inches long and straight. I'm sure elk would fill that bill. I get a lot of white tail horns, but we really have a lot of small antlered deer around where I live. Didn't mean to make this sound like an advertisement. ha ha. If you would PM me the address where you obtain your elk horn, I'd be most appreciative
