Well I used to live in Colorado Springs, that's about as close to the issue as I get. I was a member of CSKC which certainly had some members pretty bothered by BSL an hour to the north. I was involved with Pikes peak humane society and I went on a couple rescue runs to pick up dogs who had been abandoned in the desert. I also worked at one of the vet offices in the city.
I'm not really political to the extreme on the topic. I just am tired of anti BSL crying about the world being so unfair but unwilling to address any of the issues which lead to them being targeted in the first place. I have yet to see an anti BSL group support a non breed specific dangerous dog ordinance with some real consequences to the owners who cause such issues to make the paper, or make attempts to save their breed from the hands of thugs, and stop those who pump out litter after litter just to end up euthanized at a shelter. What I have seen is youtube videos crying about how the world isn't fair, with their dogs licking kittens, and talking about how sweet their dog is.
Here's what I'd like to see: Breed specific rescues offer to fund shelters who board pits for adoption, offer rewards to shelters who adopt pits out or reduce the numbers euthanized yearly, breed specific rescues offering to give low/no cost spay neuters to all pits, anti BSL people sponsor legislation to put teeth in nuisance dog and dangerous dog ordinances based upon behaviors rather than breed, and support the actions of law enforcement and animal control taking action on those laws no matter what the breed is.
So, when you trot out a bunch of kids who weren't alive when the Denver breed ban took effect in 94' or 89' from another state and just want to use the approach to manipulate viewers. I take issue with that, it's a cheap way to manipulate people, and it's wrong to use children in that way. All kids love their dogs, few kids pick the breed they love at 10, it's their parent's choice.
You may not understand my view on this, but I do try to understand yours. It sucks to be swept up in something that you have nothing to do with. It's not my job to fix it for you though or blindly follow because BSL is wrong. It's up to people who love the breed to save it for themselves.

I LOVE it. I do see your point of view. nI may not always agree with it, but please don't lump us (anti BSL people) all together. I basically agree with everything you've just said, except trotting the kids out. I guess I'll just agree to disagree with you on this one. When I was 10 I had a Lab and that has been my breed of choice for years although I've added rescuing pittys and their mixes to my list. (My black dog was supposed to have been all lab) God willing these kids will grow up to help instill legislation based on behavior. I'm all for it!
How did you miss all the breed specific rescue groups and breed clubs that do exactly what your saying? Now it sounds like your ignoring things to make a point.
There are non-specific dangerous dog laws all over. Look at Contra Costa County, Ca. For one.

Many flaws were pointed out (wisely and correctly, I thought), but I still call it "an attempt to save their breed from the hands of thugs." Flawed, yes, but an attempt.

And maybe a quick trot down to Sacramento would help you out the next time the legislature is considering any anti-pet owner laws. You'll see tons of groups and individuals there more then willing to work with law makers to accomplish something. Take a look at which side doesnt want what your asking for.

When you find a breed specific rescue that has ANY extra funds let me know. Most are running on a shoestring and the shoestring is fraying quick. They are receiving more animals and less donations. Rescues are turning dogs away or having to tell the owners where their animal will be euthanized in a humane manner. A lot of rescues have closed too.
