We had a weirdo client that had Chinese Crested dogs and Sphynx cats. The black cat was a little hellion and the yellow was super sweet. One day she brings in the yellow one and wants him euthanized because he is growing some hair on his flanks. Luckily I was able to talk her out of him and place him. I later learned that since the Sphynx is a mutation of the (already mutated) Rex, that they often grow Rex-type hair in middle age.
Did you talk to them about trying to help them re-home yourself? That's a damn shame with such a young dog, she's barely more than a puppy herself.
The worst I ever heard was, "Put this cat to sleep it doesn't go with my new furniture."
OMG, that breaks my heart.
We were actually just joking around that we need a halloween colored couch since we have orange cats and black dogs. But in reality a nice multishade tweed in neutral colors will do just fine.
That is so horrible. I hear so many people doing this all of the time though. I made sure when I found my vet that he was not the type to just "dispose" of animals when the owner felt like it. I dont understand the people or the vets that actually go along with putting dogs down for no good reason. Poor dog...i hope it works out for him.
Stories like this drives me crazy!!
There are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners!!
Just today I over heard a lady saying she was going to give her dog up for adoption at the local shelter because her dog was having some behavorial problems...how about giving the dog a little structure!! Another Pitbull in the shelter system, he would have had a great chance at adoption. In order to save the dog, I offered the lady training for practically nothing if she agrees to keep him, and she said yes!! I was happy at least I was able to save this dog, but just goes to show you the irresponsible pet owner's out there. They just buy a pet and don't realize that it needs to be taken care of... sorry for venting a little bit, but this topic drives me up the wall.
