Ok, I know some of you have chickens. We are looking for a small cage to keep quail in for Finn to get "birdy" with. I was thinking about a wooden rabbit hutch and configer it for quail.
The reasoning for this is I have to keep it on my deck and I don't want my neighbor to complain about poop and feed. Also, I these birds wont last through training season (mainly in the summer months and early fall before hunting season).
So fire your thoughts on this away because I can't afford sending him to a trainer. Also, max number of quail at a time would be about 12.
Mary, I just Yahoo'd rabbit hutch and a whole lot of info comes up. I don't know anything about quail, but if you join http://www.backyardchickens.com there is a group of folks there who can help!
Thanks Barbara! I was kind of panicing about having birds on my deck! *Frazzeled* But I think we are going to suck it up and go to a trainer along with training on our own!!
Love the pic of Falcon btw. Trying to figure out which is longer lol his tongue or his ears!! very pretty boy you have!!

Hey Mary,
There's a company out of Oregon that has the cheapest cages with a tray I've seen. Their name is Woody's Wabbits and they do have a website. You might also be able to find something on craigslist as well.
I get my rabbit cages from Woody's Wabbits since my last cage vendor retired. The shipping is very costly unless you have them sent flat, they just require hog nose pliers to set them up. You need a hutch, I don't believe he sells them. You could get these cages and build the cover around them allowing for more space. I was into game birds years ago, keep in mind that quail do not like cold temperatures!
tammy I dont think they will last that long . Only during training season. But they will suppliment our chicken supply!! just need them over the summer mainly. I think between NAVHDA and the trainers I might be able to skate by with just killing the ones I use for training.
