Taking an animal that uses sonar and naturally swims 100 miles a day, and putting them in a tiny concrete tank and subjecting them to the mechanical sounds of the pumps/filters/etc, crowds and loud music, is about the equivalent of strapping us into a straight-jacket and subjecting us to a strobe light... 24 hours a day, every day, until we die.
Oh, and we have to do tricks, in the meantime.
Although Paul Watson does make a brief cameo in The Cove, the Sea Shepherd Organization is not affiliated with the filmmakers, to my knowledge.
It's amazing more trainers aren't killed by these animals. Great analogy. Don't forget our trainers would say how much they love us and want to study us in those straight jackets, and it's for the good of our species. Whacked when you look at it from that perspective- Aaron, thanks for the enlightenment. I used to love Sea World...now I'm only begining to see the real picture.
We used to go to "Theater of the Sea" on Islamorada in the Keys. I even swam with the dolphins there. They said all their dolphins were rescues and they wouldn't be able to live in the wild. Makes me wonder if there is a spin on that one. They did try to teach about conservationism and illegal parrot trade. Interestingly enough at the bottom of the page on this link they quote Paul Watson http://www.theaterofthesea.com/about.dolphins_sealions.htm
I find it... interesting... that they mention the Faeroe Islands yearly slaughter, but leave out the monthly slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, which is fueled almost entirely by the captive dolphin trade.
Comparing a wild animal to a domestic dog fails Logic 101.
That's horrible. I had to order "the cove" as the movie rental place had a defective copy. I'm waiting for it to come snail mail. Monthly slaughter??? Yearly is bad enough. I was looking on Paul Watson's website and there is one where they drive them all to the shore and then run in and severe their spinal chords. It's so hard because while I know this is their livliehood and they're probably feeding their families...It's very cruel. Pigs are smart and they are slaughterd , but at least at our local slaughterhouse they use a gun that shoots a nail type thing into their brain and kills them instantly. If I didn't like meat so much I'd definately end up a vegetarian.

Take the stuff Paul Watson says with a grain of salt. The man is a liar and a terrorist. If he had an ounce of integrity he'd be in prison instead of the poor kids he left out to rot.
