Alright, so I'm at the stage where I need to invest in a new collar and would like a little help. I'm mainly looking between all of the different 280NCP collars. I do have two dogs that will be using collars, but for different reasons. They will be close to the same level stimulous however they both live quite separate lives so will never be trained at the same time per say. There are only a handful of instances where I will need to have two collars at once so keep that in mind as well.
So a few questions. For the people with multiple dogs, do you buy each dog a collar set(own collar and remote), buy a two/multi dog model, or do you just buy one collar and alternate between dogs? Also, does anyone happen to own the 280 w/ extra receivers? If so, how does it seem to work for your dogs? I like having it loser on their necks and will be getting some longer contact points for this reason if I don't get this model.
I don't mind having multiple remotes and can keep them separated and coordinated. Plus I figure if I am working one dog, someone can correct the other dog in need be while I strictly focus on the one being worked. Not to mention I wouldn't have to keep changing the settings for each dog as I know they are on different frequencies. On that note, are there any collars yet that remember settings for multiple dogs? I would love to get my hands on something like that. Thanks.
Lamarr, 1902NCP (same as 282, only low-high instead of low-med) has 2 buttons on its front, dog1-page and dog2-page and 2 buttons on the side, dog1 and dog2, which could be switched between continuous and nick using a toggle on the front (next to green light). You will have to adjust the stim setting manually for each dog. It might be simpler to have 2 separate sets, one for each dog, so that you don't have to fiddle with the level setting all the time.
Thanks for the response Ana. Yea, I figured as much. I guess in my instance, it just makes more sense to have two different remotes and collars as my dogs don't interact at all. Plus I figure if I were to ever leave one dog, I can leave the other with the trainer or whoever is watching the dog.
I also am going back and forth on each series of collars. I am leaning towards that 280 with extra receiver for one of the dogs and the regular for the other dog, but thats only if I get individual collars. I feel as though I don't need to go to the high stimulus on the 1900 but I can see the use of having something and just never needing it rather than not having it and needing it. Not with these two of course but a dog I might have in the future. Any thoughts on this? I can clearly see that the most popular ones around are the 280 series and the 1900 series just based on searching the forums, but I can find no information on anyone owning the extra receiver on the same collar. Why is that?
I would keep it as simple as possible Lamarr. Give me too many buttons and too much to think about and its gonna be a lot of problems. But then again, I struggle with a cell phone.
I have a DOGTRA 1702NCP which I believe is the same as the 1902NCP, just a couple of years older. I love it. Have had it for 5 years & I have it on my dogs almost every day. I like having it on my dogs when out on the field as a back up. Will honestly say that I have only needed to use it maybe 3-4 times in 5 years. But it is nice to know that it is there, if I need it. I work my dogs together & seperately & have rarely had problems with stiming the wrong dog. You do have to adjust the stim level, depending on the dogs that you have. But since I rarely have had to use it, it's not a problem. But my dogs stim levels are very different. I make sure that the same collar goes on the same dog ALL THE TIME & this helps keep errors from happening. The black one goes on my female & the orange one on my males. At least this is what works for me.
I like being able to use the pager feature & the nic or constant stim. I usually have it set on nic & will use the pager instead of stiming my dog. 99% of the time that is all I need as a reminder, on the rare occasion that I need to use anything.
Just me, but I would not hand my remote to ANYONE to use on my dog. No one touches that remote but me.
