I believe (not certain) that diabetics have nerve issues in extremities, so his ability to feel in that toe may have been lessened by more than the alcohol.

Lynne...what a wild story from my home state!
You're right, Leih, and I would imagine that played a big part in the guy not waking up.
Yeah, diabetic neuropathy is an eventuality of untreated diabetes. I'm going to wager anyone consuming that much alcohol... isn't treating their diabetes very well.
Alcohol consumption can actually cause hypoglycemia, so he may have been not only drunk, but suffering from severe hypoglycemia, which would have impaired him even further.
I would hope this would be a warning to 1) take better care of his diabetes, 2) treat his alcoholism and 3) watch his dog a little better. I don't buy that the dog was trying to tell him anything.
I find that to be awesome Lynne...where do you find this stuff. Lol I would also be sleeping with shoes on after that
Steel toed boots! Yikes. That dog must have smelled somel funky stuff in that guys foot.
My wife met with a client who swears that her golden retriever identified (by constant licking) a melinoma on her leg that the doctors poo-pooed until she went to a specialist.
NEVER underestimate the power of a dog's nose.
I read awhile back that a narcotics dog alerted to a sealed vial of cocaine that was packed inside a container of diesel fuel. They are amazing.
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
