Hello again,
I had to take my little one to the vet last Monday. She developed rash all over her body, was puking and had blood in her very loose stool. The gave her an antibiotic, steroid, and an antihistamine. She was sent home with an antibiotic and we gave her rice and chicken for a week. We took her in for a checkup and another stool sample (the last one came in negative) yesterday since she still has diarrhea. They told us to give her EN in cans, she puked twice after that one. So we are back to rice and chicken. I really think she needs a probiotic and no EN but right now I only have tablets for people. It's called iFlora, says proprietary probiotic blend 84mg and then it names 16 different strains of probiotic bacteria. Should I give this to her (split? crushed?) or is there another one that would be better?
I use a powdered form and give 1/4 tsp mixed in with a little plain high quality yogurt, then mixed in with the muscle meat.
I think that amount is approximately for an 80 lb dog.
You could crush the tablet with a mallet and give in with the rice.
Or you could just take the pill open her mouth and get it back on her throat and help her swallow to get it down.
You may start barking and sniffing butts... haaahaaahaaahaawoof
She eats EVERYTHING she can get her little snout on. I have to be like a hawk with her. I had her originally on raw diet (Stella and Chewy) but then it got to be too much and I switched to Orijen. That was fine for many months and then she started this random pukey/diaarhea thing on and off. I thought it may have been the food plus I read Cindy's Q&A about a dog who was eating everything in sight and Cindy said to try change diets. So I went to Hones Kitchen Thrive, same thing, Honest Kitchen Embark, same thing. On and off pukey/diarrhea. One days she was good, the next day sick. Because of her see-food diet (eats everything she sees) I think she may have eaten one of the mushrooms that grow in our lawn because the condo overwaters. Otherwise it could have been everything else- cat poop, bird poop, poison ivy, and everything else she has tried so far. I REALLY DO watch her like a hawk even though it may not seem like that with the "treat" list I just gave you but she still manages to sneak stuff in. I know I should be teaching "leave it" and I will have to start, preferably today.
