Started yesterday. Comes out formed then the end is pudding like. He goes then seems done moves around then goes again, then seems done then goes again. I knowticed he's got some teeth coming in. Is this a cause of teething?
That and my husband was giving the kibble. He's supposed to get 2/3 cup 3x day. I think he's gotten a full cup but stops eating when he's full. Could this also be overfeeding?
Background: He had giardia last month. Was on meds for a week finished them. Then went back on a 10 day stretch of pills because he had bad bacteria in his gut that was causing diarrhea but no giardia in site.
He had a fecal float and cytology done yesterday and all came back negative. He did though go swimming in a local lake and drank some water. Other dogs were doing the same and I didn't see any problems in them. Only thing that hubby said was it was by the boat landing.
So I am feeding him NOW rice and ground beef. Pumpkin is hard to come by since last season. I am also making sure he drinks enough and has constant access to clean water.
If it continues by monday call vet, but right now I am banking that the rice and ground beef is going to bulk him up.
ALSO, spacey me forgot until now to add, he had puppy classes yesterday so he did have some dehydrated beef livers and some Nutro dog food samples as treats. I forgot mine and there was a recall I read on Nutro. It was puppy food.
Poor pup just wish his gut was ok. I feel like a crapy dog owner.

When a dog is recovering from gut problems, overfeeding is not a good thing. In fact, if you can, I'd give small more frequent meals along with some unflavored unsweetened live-culture yogurt* (low fat if he is fat-sensitive right now, with that inflamed gut).
Giardia is famous for repeated flareups, but what I would do on a Saturday night with a dog who is just getting over gut problems is to give only small frequent meals of overcooked rice (stressing overcooked, soupy, almost gruel), and just a little of the ground beef added (preferably with the fat cooked out).
Pumpkin: the small brands in natural-food stores are not scarce; it was the Libby's crop that failed, or that's what I read. Anyway, I still see two brands of plain pumpkin on the shelves of Whole Foods as well as a small local health-food-store chain, and I also see another canned orange squash/gourd. Maybe it was Hubbard or Butternut.
When did he drink the lake water?
* if you already know he tolerates yogurt well ... otherwise I'd probably hold off until I saw formed logs
Thursday Morning. Logs are formed for 97% of the stool. Normal stool till just the end. then poof.. nothing. I'm pretty certain the giardia is wiped out. Its been a bit over a month since we first had symptoms. After the first dose of meds he was back to formed stools. The second was back to formed stools within hours.
I wanna say lake water or over feeding is my hedge bet on this one.
