I'm the OP. I've only been here ahort while but I'm sure there is no doubt that if I don't like something, I'll speak up.
Normal conversations drift a little and that is natural. If it drifts too far in my thread, I'll let y'all know. Just waggin my tail here, come on, come a little closer......

There are lots of breeds I have a hard time reading. Sometimes bully breeds are diffcult, they just always look so stiff. If you aren't close enough to see what their eyes and ears are doing it can be tricky.
Odd, I find bullies to be among the easiest to read! Usually either the tail is flagged and stiff, or the whole body is wagging. Either way, I raise my voice an octave and say "Gooooood dog!" and take it from there. If they don't stand and just are looking at me, all bets are off, though. They have pretty expressive faces, and no control of the tail, so I'm always happy to meet someones pit (or such) that isn't a dog-on-a-rope. Which takes me back to chows... I've seen at least a half dozen dogs go from happy to bite in a flash that make me admittedly prejudiced. The pups I've been around are really smart and alert, and not much is cuter than a chow puppy. But the same behavior I lament, I've seen in toy breeds more than a few times. I really don't want to cast a wide net around an entire breed, but I understand why folks have this mindset.
