We are almost three months since Loki was attacked and I am seeing some new and interesting behaviors so I thought I would update on our progress.
Overall I am seeing a happy, playful, and silly dog come back to the forefront. He no longer goes and hides in the bedroom, is prone to fits of the wiggles and even tried to entice Nico to wrestle the other day.
He has finally gained some weight, I am thinking a constant low level of stress was part of the reason he stayed so thin all the time.
He is also finally starting to test me a little bit, this is annoying but I think it is also a good sign.
Since the contest I have been doing more basic obedience stuff with him and been blown off a few times, but a verbal correction usually gets him on track. this is something I had really slacked on with him so I am making sure to do a little bit every night.
They seemed to have had a party while I was at work today.
I walked into couch cushions on the floor, a water bottle that had been chewed up and the remnant of a package of goldfish crackers in the living room and an empty bagel bag on t he kitchen floor. The food was all well back on the counter so he had to work to get to it.
If it happens again we will have to go back to baby gates!
I had a very long necked and tall husky-type dog & beagle/jrt team for a while. No joke, my little guy, Scout, loved to chew on broken glass! So, he had some arrangement with Pharoh (the husky x), where he would knock over glasses in high places (usually left on a counter top), and Scout would crunch away on the glass! Never found an injury from it though... but that is the type of party you don't want your dogs to have, believe me!
Last week my grandparents were in town, and when they are here we spend as much time with them at my mom's as possible, both to help her out and because time with them is precious so despite the fact that I took Loki over with me a couple of nights we just weren't home nearly as much as usual.
Then ysterday was my son's first day of 3rd grade, and my husband had an earlier than normal day at work. SO they had a longer day alone than normal and I think it was the tipping point for bad behavior.
Thank goodness the high is supposed to be 84 for the next several days so we can get some good long walks in, even for Nico since it is tolerable outside.
