my female is 6o days in to her pregnancy, I took her temperture this morning, and it was 98.6 does can any one tell me how soon the labor might start? Her temp was 100 last night. so it has dropped. I was just wondering if I should stay home from work.
Temp is almost always lower in the early AM than PM
Labor is most often an evening phenomenon.
Perhaps you could check her mid-day, if she seems fine every other way.
Active labor is usually preceded by panting, restlessness.
I think you will have other signs of impending labor to warn you beyond the temp drop.
Others with more experience whelping litters will respond I'm sure.
Good luck! So exciting.
Is this the first time her temp has dropped? - I am assuming you have been taking her temp for the last several days.
If you have been taking her temp over the last several days and it has stayed pretty consistent, then this morning it had dropped, then I would stay home. I have yet to breed my first litter, but the last 2 litters I "watched", both females temps dropped 18-24 hours before pups arrived.
It has dropped in the last couple days, but not under 100. I did stay home. just took her temp at 1130 it dropped to 97.6, is that too low? She is panting excessively but I havent seen any contractions, she is grunting now and then. I'm thinking she will have her litter within the next 24. I'm alittle nervous.
I'd call my vet to warn them if you are thinking you may need help, which you most probably will not.
It sounds like labor has started! Is she licking herself?
You may want to take her out (ON A LEASH!) for a quick potty before things begin in earnest.
