Don't actually own a car. This is for a road trip with a rental car that charges cleaning penalty ($200) for dog hair so I'm trying to minimize with our plastic crate.
Just wanted to report back and thank everyone for their suggestions and tips.
We ended up renting a Nissan Altima and was able to fit the extra large plastic crate in the back one piece at a time. On the way back from our trip I stacked the top/bottom together and made it a "convertible" for Louie so I could actually see out of the back windshield and he can see some scenery too.
It took a little bit of urging to get him into and out of the crate but he did well with it. Vacation success!
