I will be taking her to the vet but it might be a couple days...(Unless I see major decline in the situation)
However all there is is swelling. No redness, no pus spots,or any thing else mentioned on that link. The swelling also gets worse than a few hours latter it gets better, and than repeats again. The ONLY other thing I can think of is a allergic reaction to Flavored rawhide bones because I had not bought any for months and this last week I bought her some and she ate them. But like I said I have looked up close and see NOTHING. Just swelling.
She seemed to be getting better but she is super swollen again tonight...Going to the vet in the morning. It is like having a kid sick! I kept her inside all day so I know it is not ants. I can't understand what she could be so allergic to. She is worse tonight than all the other days.. she has got hives all over the head, ears, but nowhere else. I gave her benadril, I really wish I knew what was causing it... Anyone heard of a dog becoming allergic to food after consuming it for over a month? Can dogs be allergic to grass/outdoors?
Elizabeth, I'm so glad to hear you will be seeking professional help on our little "spin inna bucket" dog since this is continuing...
We used to have a yellow lab who was allergic to grass, pollen, tobacco (we didn't smoke) cats, dust (she was screwed on these two) and I don't remember what all else. My husband gave her daily injections which helped.
Yes they can. I have a dog with environmental/inhalant allergies.
She was tested intradermally and has 24 allergies out of 45 or so.
Everything from dust, dust mites, molds, trees(pollen) and grasses
(also pollen) as well as bacteria.
There must be something that she is reacting to inside your home.
It sounds like the dog gets better during the day and then worse at night.
Are you able to vacuum often, and clean the bedding where your dog sleeps? The hives and swollen eyes though, that really has me puzzled?
That almost sounds like a contact allergy.
Is there any kind of contact with any chemicals either to rid the home of pests sprayed in the house?
Anything new that the dog has recently been exposed to?
I really hope your vet visit goes well for the dog.
Let us know how it goes.
Poor dog, I am sorry she and you are having to go through this.
Several plants have been documented to cause contact allergy in dogs. These include dandelion leaves, cedar wood, Asian jasmine and wandering Jew. Plants of the Commelinceae family, such as doveweed, spreading dayflower and wandering Jew, are frequently responsible for contact allergy in dogs in the southeastern United States. Common characteristics of these plants are lance-shaped fleshy leaves with closed sheaths and a few soft hairs on the upper margin. They reproduce by seed and have blue to purple flowers. They are found in moist habitats and in warm climates and are not usually responsible for contact hypersensitivity in people. Calcium oxalate crystals are hypothesized to be responsible for the allergy-producing effect of these plants.
Any possibility you have acquired some new house plants?
Hives (urticaria) and a swollen face (angioedema) are typical hypersensitivity (or allergic) reactions to drugs, chemicals, something eaten, or even sunlight.
I gave her Benadryl the other night and she had not a trace of anything yesterday. Today I am seeing a few little swollen spots on her. The vet was not there But the real problem is finding out what she is allergic to... Nothing has changed that I know of... I plan on seeing the vet tomorrow, in the morning some time.(He is worth waiting for considering some other vets in the area) She was feeling a lot better yesterday to cause she was driving me nuts! She had not really wanted to play for the last few days. I'll post when I have more news.
Well I never was able to "take" her to the vet but so far it looks like the benadryl has finished the reaction. I don't have the smallest idea what she got into or how to figure out what it was but as long as she is not reacting anymore I am happy. I still am going to see the vet for info on what I should do. She was feeling mighty good though last night because the bed she sleeps next to got a 2 by 3 (feet) hole in the bottom of it I was my fault but it didn't make the temptation to ring her neck away... I was controlled however and may have to give some $$ for repair (it was my parents bed, brand new). Its one thing when it is your own things that get destroyed but having it be your parents....just isn't very good.
