Bought today from a pet shot as a "discount" puppy because she's to old
female
3.5 months old
overweight
extremely nervous and shy but people oriented (or at least attached to me like velco, ignores her owners completely)
has not eaten anything but a few treats early this morning
drank a boat load of water
has first puppy shots
inflated pot belly (bloated and hard)
bone dry nose (as in, noticeably cracking)
a bit mellower than I'd expect a puppy to be (could just be tired)
has not pooped might have peed (she lays down, pees and will lay in it so it's hard to find)
seems strangely bald around the eyes (lack of hair)
I said a vet visit soon is in order (by which I meant today....) what do you think?
this doesn't strike me as a "good" pet store (no such thing as a good pet store that sells puppies...) the way the described it, they got another puppy a few weeks ago, this is the second (the first was a Bullmastiff that looks...not really purebred)
I'm trying to press them into getting her checked out...she just really doesn't look healthy at all....
I offered to help them take her temperature (we have a thermometer for animal use) but they were horrified when I told them how that was done....so they're not going to let me -_-
they are very nice people, they are not intelligent pet owners and one of them suffers from "I"M A MAN" mentality (you know what I"m talking about...the kind that makes trying to steer him in the right direction like arguing with a particularly stubborn brick wall)...I DO NOT see this working out...between them and another neighbor of mine...lets just say I'm prepared to assist in finding these puppies new homes when they hit about 8 months old. I've been focusing on OB with them so at least they'll be relatively polite at that point...

Rottie Puppy (or so they said...TINY head)
belongs to a neighbor of mine.

I know that you KNOW a vet visit (now) is in order, and that you are posting for experienced posters' agreement with you to back up what you told them .... you can certainly add my "yes, and ASAP" vote.
I'm more posting so I can say (without lying) "Oh, well this forum of very dog knowledgable people agreed when I said......"
it seems to have worked though. They've called their vet for an appointment (hopefully it's for today, but if not, first thing tommorrow morning)
and yeah, the whole concept of "discount puppy" and the fact this is the SECOND puppy they're taking on (mind you the complex allows only two furry pets and they already had two cats)...the whole situation is not really good.....on the plus side I've gotten the guy interested in training...right now I'm fighting the "WELL IIIII KNOW WHAT TO DO" attitude (this guy apparently CAN NOT be wrong...but I know he's listening because when he talks to other people he regurgitates part of what I say....).
He's lucky the bull mastiff is a "good" puppy....I don't know how this is going to work....
