I have a 5 mo old rotti pup. She has been a very good pup. But, In the last week she has callange me twice. The first time we were sitting on the floor together and she mouthed me harder than normal , so i put my hand around her mouth and said no bite , and she snaped at me. The second time was this morning, (she lays by the sink in the kitchen where there is a heat resiter, that her spot). I told her to move and she growled at me. I know that she is teething, I understand that, but when she growled at me this morning , i know that there is something more going on. I have the tape puppys 8 weeks to 8mo. I do the walking out doors first, I make her sit for her food. I have her on leash alot. This morning I put her on a prong collar and made her do sits and stay ect. She didnt like that. I didnt correct her hard. I dont want to ask to much of her at her age, but yet the growling business is not good either. I could really use some advice.
You are dealing with puberty. I have been challenged by every Rott that I have owned. I have seen this aggression before she is challenging you for position. I am the large version of the male of the species so when I saw this growling warning thing I grabbed the back of the neck and lifted them up until they realized the error of thier ways. I would not allow this to continue. I don't make it personal. Maybe someone else has a better idea it's always worked for me
Just be a bit careful with the corrections, keeping in mind you are dealing with a 5 month old PUPPY who is just trying to test out the waters.
Finding the line to be firm, and not too scary to intimidate the puppy, is important. Especially cause the pup will be entering some fear stages where their temperment can really be affected.
