Well we finally got a diagnosis...mild elbow dysplasia. Seems we caught it early so I am happy about that. I was hoping I could get some help with Capone's treatment plan. The Vet wanted to put him on Rimadyl, which I declined and Glucosamine. I am starting Adequan for my parents 12 year old shep mix on Monday, and am waiting for a call from the Vet to see if I can start Capone as well.
Right now this is what we have:
HK-Thrive (he has had stomach issues a lot recently so I went with the sensitive formula) Eventually I will add in rmbs as well. I have to take it VERY slow with him or he gets diarrhea.
Fish Oil- the bottle says each pump is .12 fl oz/ 3.5 cc and recommends 3 pumps for his weight (70 lbs) Is that enough or should I be giving him more?
Vit E-400
MSM
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth as a natural de-wormer etc...He just started this recently.
Any other suggestions? I am also waiting on a call from the vet about exercise restrictions. I forgot to ask when I was there. I am not sure what I should be allowing him to do. We have one flight of stairs. and He sleeps upstairs, other than that he doesn't need to go up there.
Thank you in advance. I want to make sure I do this right and try and prevent any worsening.
Kristi, are you still looking for advice? I am new here, and so just saw this, but my 13 month old rottie has elbow dysplasia, and I would be happy to tell you what we did for him. SO far it has been a great success, although some of what we did was never done on a dog before, but it is done all the time to people. I am hoping one of the vets involved will do something with the results. I remember the little hope we had when he was diagnosed, and the surgeon said he was not a candidate for surgery.
