What a wonderful day for training! We concentrated on ob today and saw nice progress with the dogs.
Bogie is learning precision attentive ob with the ultimate in distractions. A girl in heat. Prime heat. I was proud of him, he did well. Bogie is a big boy and I'm pretty sure his dog pounds are more then my girl pounds. We have this new addition to our training group that showed me a way to just turn my foot into him when he starts to heel into me that makes all the difference in the world. Before I would try and turn into him with my whole body and it was really like trying to steer into a brick wall and move it.
Our new addition, Cori, (AKA butt biter) did a little bit of bitework and was all I could of asked for and more. I had the biggest grin on my face. Once again a big thanks to Jason.
Everyone fell in love with her, she was just a confident dog having fun in the light ob I did with her.
Most importantly my 70 something year old mother did killer ob with Doc. Mom is made of tough stuff, she was out there in the Florida sun heeling figure 8's, heeling around barrels and staying right on top of everything. Watching that powerful dog look up to her for direction touched my heart.
Betty, your day sounded absolutely wonderful. I would love nothing more than to get my almost 70 year old mother out to train with me. Maybe one day. Your new girl sounds like everything you were hoping for. I’m sure she’ll take you far… oops, I mean with your expert guidance you will take her far.
Unfortunately, I don’t have club worthy dogs so I have to be an opportunist and train with anything we come across. We were having that perfect day too until a last minute diversion retrieve went sideways. In any case, thought I’d share a few pictures of the fun times.
This was quite a narrow, old rickety bridge – had them all on it doing obedience.
Came across this abandoned playground (solidly build with run down cabins – I think it must have been an old Boy Scout camp). I’ve never forgotten your wise words about letting that inner child out to play - does amazing thing for building that speed, even if I am the direct focus of their bite work. The landing was nothing but tongues, paws and fur. Much better than the gravel I was intending to fly face forward in.
Tried to get Echo to go up the stairs. He loves his marker training and got used to them nicely. Silly mommy should have known better though, he could stretch higher up than I could get the treats.
Vince is great on an angled A-frame but these stairs were about 2 inches across and almost straight up and down. He made it up to rung 4 and then cautiously backed down. I think I was way more nervous than he was, but I was very proud of him.

WOW! I love those pics! I will get the camera out, things have been kind of hectic here with getting the butt biter settled in and then Bacall decided to come into heat 6 weeks early...... It's a plot, her mother who I was expecting to come into heat hasn't yet of course. ROFL
You know I look at those pictures and I see the biggest grins both human and canine and it reminds me that that is what its all about!
Last Sunday I went out to meet the members of a club and observe their training day. My dad went with me since my hubby had to work. And we both had an awesome time! The dogs were having a great time, the people were having a great time, it was just a great day!! Never got SO much info from a single session and I didn't even have my dog with me! Needless to say, I'll be joining their club!
