And just gotta say again… I LOVE marker training. We have the rinse bottle, sterile water, salt, paper towels, neosporsin and golden seal in a metal type tray which we bring out morning and evening to clean the wound. We do this before meals when we know he’s hungry. He’s a cheesy guy, so out with the marbled cheddar and I mark his sniffing of the tray every time. He’s laying down nice and calmly now, on his left side so we have easy access to the right foot. Then each individual item is marked as it’s picked up in the process, which he’s fully involved in. He smells it and “touches”, “YES” cheese and then we perform that specific action.
He’s pulled the leg away a couple of times throughout the week so we know these days that it’s a bit more sensitive. Other than these two occasions, it’s like he knows this is helping him and has just been the best little trooper throughout the whole process.
I haven’t called the vet again. He’s doing great on the antibiotics, no diarrhea; in fact he was a bit bound up yesterday. I’m thinking this may be all the extra cheese and decrease in activity level. Any suggestions welcome. It was just the once yesterday afternoon, the rest have been perfect. I’ll be watching today.
It’s healing just like the vet described. This triangle thing. Healing up from the bottom (much less deep now) and spreading the top open. When the deep, meaty healing reaches the surface, the spread out top is supposed to start to cover over. He said it would be about two weeks. So what our limited experience is telling us, is that it’s going as planned.
Does anyone see anything we should be concerned about??
Oh, and the brown stuff on the towel is a bit of spilled golden seal and the green thing on his foot is grass from the freshly cut lawn.
It looks good to me too CJ. It sounds like your treatment is doing the trick, as it looks more closed up than last time, so it appears to be healing well.
Golden seal is amazing stuff as is the salt water spray.
Nice to get the update, I was just thinking about you and Vince!
We’re so intimately involved with this on a daily basis, sometimes there can be changes or things happening that we’re not seeing because we’re looking at it all the time.
The things we are extremely cognizant of are exactly what you mentioned Jennifer, swelling, redness and any type of oozing, which all appear minimal.
And yes Joyce, I guess Bob was right. This golden seal, along with the salt and Neosporin (for this particular wound) is really helping.
It was funny Jennifer, I meant to mention that when I posted about the “Gold Seal”, Bob quickly corrected me, saying “Golden”, not Gold. And your post right after that stating its correct name had him all puffed up in smugness for the correction he gave me. Men… geeesh.
