Housebreaking I don't know what to say. I have done as I've been told and now she feels totally comfortable with peeing in front of us so much that she will stop squat and pee in front of us no matter where she is! I'm not finding this amussing and the more we take her out the more she uses the house. The only way I can take her out more is to stay outside and never enter the house.
Bathing is being left to the groomer because I'm the one getting wet and she somehow manages to stay dry.
Her new play is getting into the garbage. She doesn't eat anything she just likes the boxes and bottles and takes them out while dragging the rest of it across the floor. She has more toys than any dog I have ever seen. She has pull toys, ropes, socks and old shoe, balls and a her own stuffed animal so why is she tearing up my garbage? The more I say no the more she wags her tail. Am I that non threatening?
Good news! She is getting much better with walking on the leash and will even run out of the house and stop when I hollor for her. Now she won't come back to me but she will stop. I think she thinks it is a game. BUT she is not running off as before!
The crate is a great device that she enjoys jumping over and sitting on top of but getting in no way...no way at all! I tried putting food in there. I tried shutting the door with dog bones in there. I tried putting her stuffed animals in there and her bed, which made her cry. So I took it out and put it back in her "spot".
And last but least she hides my shoes, don't know why, but she hides them, she doesn't tear them up so I have started locking them in a storage bin along with my husbands and my sons shoes. So now she drags the storage bin across the floor and rest her head on it.
Last her new "name" is sweat girl because she likes that better. She responds to sweatgirl everytime where as Marley Girl only part of the time.
All of this could be a different thread so we don't have a feeding thread all mixed up with a management thread, OK?
It sounds as though you are the permissive parent to a spoiled human child.
Stop it.
Your dog needs a consistent diet, either a high quality grain-free kibble or proper raw meat and bones. Chicken leg quarters are easy and will give the dog her meat, bone, fat and organ, start there and branch out later.
She does not need vegetables every day.
If you squeeze oil on her food she can still smell it, she knows it's there even if she doesn't see you do it.
Do you ever correct her when she pees in the house?
Go back to the basics. Tether her to you in the house, keep her on a leash when she is outside, crate her when you can't watch her.
Feed her in her crate. She will be more comfortable with the crate and she won't travel all over the house licking everyone while she is eating.
If she won't come to you when you call her - keep her on a leash and reel her in after you call her one time.
If she whines when you do anything she doesn't agree with and you cave in to her demands you have just reinforced to her how easy you are to train.
If it is difficult to feed a raw diet on your own....try one of the ready made frozen BALANCED ones that you can get like Bravo. It comes in 1,2 & larger lb frozen tubes. It has the ground bones, organ meats, muscle meat & some veggies in it. It is a bit pricey, but for one dog, or a pup especially, (not too high a cost) it is a good way to go, because it will be properly balanced for the needs of a growing pup. You can do much more harm then good feeding an incorrect raw diet than feeding a medium grade kibble. IMO
You will be adding the risk of a whole host of medical issues feeding a dog, especially a pup, an incorrectly balanced raw diet. These issues may surface now or in the future & can be very serious.
As for the dog not wanting to eat what you put in front of it.....even with a pup, I would put the food down for 15 min & then pick it up & put it in the frig & serve it at the next meal. Do the same again, 15 min & up until the next meal. I assure you that no dog especially a puppy will volunteerly starve itself. This means no snacks, treats, etc between meals, until you see the dog eating his meals for a couple of days at the regular times. I feed pups under 6 mo 3X a day. So divide the days worth into 3 parts & then feed. Also, if you are overfeeding at one meal the pup may not be hungry enough to eat at the next meal. You might make the meals a little smaller until you see him eating each meal.
Also exercise will make the pup hungry. Take him out to potty & play for a while bring him in & let him rest a bit & then offer his meal.
Ok I'm not making myself clear I don't give her chicken bones every day she gets those 3 times a week. I give her bones 3-4 times a week. Right now she is chowing down on 1.5lb of veal bones. It looks like the rib cage and she is happy as can be. I have had her for 7 1/2 weeks or so. She was severely underweight when I got her. She is now about 9lbs heavier than when I got her but she hasn't gained any weight in the past week or week and a half. She was 20 something lbs underweight when originally rescued. Why on earth though do I get told by the vets mix the dog food with the raw because she won't eat the dog food without it. Then here I'm told not to. I have had numerous dogs over the years and all were in excellent health but I have never had one that was so under weight and seems to be hard to get to gain the weight. That is what worries me. She to me should be gaining more. This is the first time as well I've had a hard time getting a dog to go outside BUT this is the first time I've tried this method on here.
Then I'm told, from here, bones are only for chewing on not meant as a meal now your saying it should be part of her diet! I'm not angry but this place is a bit confusing. I don't get it....she's not gaining weight anymore....so the vet says give her ensure or yogurt she won't touch the yogurt...she won't eat a raw egg. I have to cook it sunny side up. How does she even know? But if I cook it all the way she won't touch it either. Who would had known. Her coat regardless is getting healthier looking...and her fun isn't as briddle.

She needs all the small-prey bones (like in a chicken) that come in it.
Why on earth though do I get told by the vets mix the dog food with the raw because she won't eat the dog food without it.
Because the vet doesn't know any better, and because most vets do not have any nutrition training that isn't provided by Hills/Science Diet. (See the next post for why not to mix kibble and raw.)
Then I'm told, from here, bones are only for chewing on not meant as a meal now your saying it should be part of her diet!
"Bones are for chewing and not diet" means the kind of bones that the dog doesn't consume and digest.
There are two kinds of bones. One is RMBs and one is recreational. The dog needs an RMB-based diet. Here is the difference:
Please see the link just above about the two kinds of bones and the links below that describe raw diets in great detail.
the vet says give her ensure ....
.... most vets do not have any nutrition training that isn't provided by Hills/Science Diet....
I would get deodorized fish oil, btw, and the dog won't discern the fish scent that is probably the problem now. (Some hate and some love fish.)
A "hard keeper" of a dog needs more food. That is, more of the balanced diet she requires, not the several sugars and the straight milk (very different from cultured dairy, like yogurt) that are in Ensure. Dogs do not need sugar and many dogs do not tolerate uncultured dairy well.
Ensure contains stuff like corn maltodextrin (a sugar), more sugar (as sucrose), milk, soy, whey, corn oil ....
