Question about the dry shampoo - how would it react when they drink from their water bowls? Are they going to create suds?
The baking soda seemed to work okay, but not great, we are going to keep trying to see if we can figure out the best technique. The biggest problem with the baking soda was that after we got it in, they decided to drink and it all washed out.....
We are also considering getting flat platters to feed on instead of bowls so they don't rub the sides of the their faces against the sides of the bowls when licking them clean....

Most dry shampoos that I've encountered are basically baking soda and babypowder. I don't think it would suds up at all. Personally I'd just pick up the water dish for an hour or mix the water in their raw meal.
My husband found something called "Poof" by Pet Head - the smell completely disappears! Its designed for animals (but I know that doesn't always mean its good for them). Has anyone used any Pet Head products? Part of me doesn't want to know if its bad for them because it works soooooooo well! But I'd rather be a "good mom" and find something else if anyone knows something I don't!

Pet Head is a pretty new product line I haven't tried yet. Glad it seems to be working for you. I haven't heard anything negative or positive about the line but I was aware of it's existence. lol So maybe no news is good news?
I've used the pet head deodorizing shampoos and it is the absolute best product for deodorizing that I have ever come across. I would imagine the spray-on works just as well.
Also, you could always tie their head up in a handkerchief like they do with the afghan show dogs that have a full head of hair. Dont know if your dogs would tolerate it but it might be worth some training time to get them to tolerate it.

Edit reason: bad grammar

Thanks for the suggestion, Jessica - our dogs hair style is more like an Old English Sheepdog or a Bouvier, but my uncle has a Springer Spaniel, I'll recommend that he use that method for Nemo's ears!
Right now we wash with a wet rag, add dry shampoo and let sit until they drink. When that washes out we spray with the Pet Head deodorizer and brush through - seems to be working but its time consuming - however the girls have never seemed happier than on this diet so I'm willing to do the work for happy, healthy dogs
