It has been a long gap for both Kaiser and I . We had to figure out lack of motivation issues with Kaiser. Finally the blood test confirmed very low levels of blood hemoglobin. (14-19 normal. kaiser has 10).
Took a break from any serious training for the past two weeks and focused on a lot of hugs and kisses
I also had to go out of station and then there were the rains.
Had been observing kaiser the past few days and he was playing much more robustly. Even though his next blood test is not due for an other 13 days, I decided to get back to training.
Both him and I are a bit rusty but we decided to get back to basics. Basic body positions, Hold for retrieve, body awareness, bark etc. Nothing fancy, but here is a video. As always constructive criticisms are welcome.
I am always encouraged to see your videos on here... I guess I am not the only one that does not know if I am doing everything right The only thing I might say is lacking is the distance between treats. I could be wrong though... I like watching you videos!
Elizabeth> thanks for your kind words. I try to learn as much as I can from this forum because I am a total newbie.
Tammy> Bommi is doing great. The amazing thing is that I do not train her very much and yet she is super smart. Also she is so cute, I tend to fawn over her. Get this, she does focussed heeling with almost zero training. She just loves to look at my face, so the other day I made her sit and she was naturally looking at me and then I started walking and she just started heeling with out taking her eyes off me.
Ram, you might try making the treats smaller. I noticed it takes Kaiser a while to chew every bit. This way you could increase your reinforcement rate, which could increase his drive.
I've read that liver (the organ that processes blood) is good for those with low hemoglobin.
Ana> I give him liver every day since he was diagnosed with low Hemoglobin. I give it along with his lunch. I am a vegetarian and I am a bit squeamish about handling raw meat. So I have to use tongs. It is difficult to handle small bits of meat. But I can try the same with cheese though. I will try giving smaller bits and see how it goes.
I use cat treats... They are soft and taste like tuna and are the perfect size. I get different flavors and mix them. I also use moist dog food (not her regular food) for treats and they are also perfect in size and soft. I don't hardly ever use meat because It gives me so much drive that she spins in circles, never concentrating. I will use meat in distractions training Cheese does not seem to be a reward to Zuki. She would rather have apples.lol
