Hi all. My first post, but I've been reading all your posts for 2 months now, so I know you, but you don't know me. I love this site and I can't believe I was lucky enough to stumble onto it and also reward based training. I trained my last 2 dogs yank and crank and was going to start with my new doggie when for no reason that I can remember, found the leerburg site and my eyes have been opened, thank you thank you thank you.
Anyway, I was fostering a rescue dog for a few weeks until I fell in love with her and we decided to keep her. Such a good dog. What I'm wondering is since we don't have any records on her, we don't know how old she is or what vaccinations she may or may not have had. Looking for some advice. The only thing I do know is she got a rabies shot while with animal control.
Thanks for any advice.

Welcome, Tim,
About how old is she? Adult?
What kind of paperwork did you get? How did A/C have the dog? Was the dog in a shelter? Surrendered? I'm asking all this because depending on the replies, there might well be (1) surrender paperwork and (2) answers from a shelter to these: What vaccinations, wormings, and tests has the dog had?

When you learn marker training, you will never go back.
I will personally bet you a hundred dollars on that!
Are you planning on any of the videos/DVDs?
Have you seen any of the free marker-training clips on the site?

WOW! Fast responses!!! I could post the 2 pieces of paperwork I have, but not sure how to do it. She seems to be about 18 months old. She's a lab/boxer mix, about 24 inches tall and 60 lbs. Very skinny, I mean lean and healthy looking, not sickly. She was abandonded (wait, she needs to go out) ok, she was abandoned in a park tied to a tree with a note saying give tori a good home. (don't like the name cuz it reminds us of tori spelling, so we changed her name to tory) She had worms like crazy when I first got her, so she's been through that. The person with the small rescue business that I got her from tells me she's been tested for heartworm but not given a preventative. The paperwork from the a/c says she was given rabies shot 1 year, and something called progaurd. I don't know what that is. She was just spayed about 6 weeks ago.
I've had a lot of coffee and it's fun to talk about my girlie, so forgive me for going on and on.....

Yeah I've got the basic obedience dvd and have watched them several times. I also have taken full advantage of all the videos on the site. I was laid off in July so it's a good time for Tory to come along cuz I've spent many many hours and even whole days watching videos and soaking up as much info as I can get my hands on. Plus she's 2 weeks into cold turkey raw diet and is doing quite well with it. We've been working together for about 4 weeks now, she knows YES! very well. I love seeing her eyes flash when I say it. She's almost 100% with sit, down, stay and stand. This week I just started heel, so far she thinks she should climb up my left arm, but she's smart and will probably be 50% by the end of the week.

I think you're right. So he got the 5-way, which means you do not needs anything at this point, since he's already had his rabies, too...
