I will trade you neighbors...mine consist of a rental house with a revolving door of untrained pitbull owners and a single fellow who works way too much to deal with his untrained pitbull and gigantic mastiff mix. The six foot fence did the trick (Well, it at least stopped the dogs from getting into my yard...and while this post makes it sound like I hate pitbulls, in reality, I really hate people who don't train their dogs and give a bad name to the breed).
Sounds like you need to grow some thicker skin 'cause unfortunately there are more people out there in life that will disagree with you and even argue with you than will change their opinion just because "you" said that your way is best.
People don't want to be wrong, especially when their way work well for them before you were even born. And when someone tells them they are, the tend to push back... Just like in dog training!!
Using POSITIVE methods with dogs is just a start, but learning how to transfer it to your interactions with people is the way to master it. You don't get angry with the pup, transfer that to the human race as well.
If your dog gets ornery, you redirect, try that with your neighbor... Say "Thanks, so how is your son doing?" Change the subject.
Have patience with the elderly. You will be one to someday, God willing...
