As with most people here, I have been hanging around for a long time and decided to start sharing.
Sometime This summer or late next year I guess I will be going to the dark side and get a working GSD. I love my Rottweilers, but I want to start a ring sport with my next dog.
The family is me, my wife Lisa, two daughters, 1 in college and the other a HS senior. 3 Dogs including a duck tolling retriever "Bear" who is 95% blind and has frequent seizures for reasons that 3 different vets cannot figure out. A rescued Border Collie "Sammy" who is incredibly loving and incredibly moody if anyone else gets any attention. Lastly a new this summer rescued Rottweiler "Lila" since my last Rotti died almost a year to the day that we got this one.
Lila is the typical bull in a china cabinet Rotti that pushes everything out of her way, especially the other dogs if they are getting petted. She is smart and figures out commands in seconds, but too smart since she has learned to open doors including the doggy door with the cover in place. And like most puppies but smart dogs and Rottweilers especially she has very selective hearing, and until recently the attention span of a gnat.
I am looking forward to interacting and meeting new dog lovers.
Thanks for the welcome Michael, Kelly, and Barbara.
Lila Has been doing marker training since the day I brought her home. We do 2-3 short sessions a day and she is cookie crazy. I mostly think it is puppy syndrome. That and she gets a lot of attention every day. She is with me alone and goes out in public with me at least twice a day. Then when the girls get home she gets more lovin than she knows what to do with.
She is a great dog who I am sure will make a great therapy dog. I have never seen a puppy who is better and more submissive to kids than she is.
Alan - I am new here but am also from Arizona. I live in Buckeye/Goodyear - southwest of Phx. Like you, I love the Rotties. I have had numerous breeds of dogs including my current ones - 9 yr old Rottie, Ravan (CGC), 2 rat terriers, Jordan, 3 yo and Tator, 5 yo(UKC Agility Level 1), Quigley - long hair min doxie 1 1/2 yo, Reba, 12 yo Aust. Cattledog, Griff, 13 yo JRT, 3 border collie, aussie, heeler crosses - Haley, Zipper and Abbey. My newest dog is a year old Malinois that I adopted from a breeder, Singer's Red Samuel. I would have gotten another Rottie, but due to homeowner's insurance conflicts with "aggressive dog" rules, we had to cancel and track down new insurance because we were told to get rid of the 9 yo Rottie or we would lose our insurance. Dog was more important but don't want to have to do that agin. My Rottie has been to several levels of obedience and has her Canine Good Citizen from AKC and is the best dog ever, but "all rotties, pits, chows, etc" are classified as "vicious".
Just wanted to say hi to a neighbor and wish you great luck with your puppy!!!!!
That is certainly a dog pack you have there. I won't get into all of the politics of BSL, except to say there should be my emphasis put on holding the owners responsible and both dog ownership and bites would fall drastically.
We practically live on the other side of the world from each other. I am in Mesa, and it is a good long drive to Buckeye from here. After 17 years here you would think I would get used to how big this city really is but it still amazes me.
